HISTORIC NAPA MILL PLANNING FIRST ANNUAL JULY 4TH CELEBRATION

AN ALL-AMERICAN CELEBRATION FROM “MOM TO APPLE PIE” May, 2003, Napa Valley California - The Historic Napa Mill on the Napa River will celebrate America’s Independence Day among the multi-faceted, two-and-one-half acre river-side entertainment complex on July 4, 2003.

Following the 5:00 pm opening of the Riverbend Performance Plaza, guests will enjoy an entire evening of all-American “mom-and-apple-pie” entertainment. Opening the evening’s events at 6:10 and performing for a half-hour will be the The Souvenirs barbershop quartet, the award-winning gentlemen of close harmony. The Michael Thomason Country Western Band will follow with two different sets. Michael Thomason’s group has performed from Napa Valley and New York to Germany and Switzerland. Thomason has co-written a western-themed musical and he or fellow band members have written virtually all of the music on their two albums, Buffalo Dreams and Won’t You Ever Learn. Kathy Coleman of Take Country Back writes of the Won’t You Ever Learn album, “. . .too good to be kept a secret exclusive to North California and Europe any longer. .. .his voice. . has a soothing, nostalgic feel to it that makes me think I heard it long ago, when I was growing up, so maybe he just reminds me of old-time Haggard or Owens, or there's just something about his singing that makes me extremely happy.” Between sets of country music, all toes will be tapping along with Dolly’s Tappers. Sequined, bespangled and bejeweled, these ladies “of a certain age” will set off their own fireworks with their terpsichorean talent, youthful exuberance and fun-loving spirit.

Following the second set by Michael Thomason, guests will enjoy the fireworks display from their ringside seats at the Riverbend Performance Plaza, all accompanied by some of America’s most patriotic compositions. Throughout the evening, food and drink will be provided by the Napa General Store, featuring a traditional barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken and ribs, and all the requisite accompaniments of potato salad, baked beans, salads, beverages, wine and sodas. Celadon will offer items from their menu, including chicken satay and crab cakes. And Sweetie Pies will round out the all-American fare with apple pie and ice cream, cupcakes and cookies. The family affair will include Popo, the Clown for the evening, to entertain the kids with face-painting and balloons.

Originally built in 1884 and designated a National Registry Historic Landmark, the Historic Napa Mill project is the largest historic redevelopment undertaking in the history of Napa and is Napa’s newest full entertainment center.

In addition to the reservation-only festivities on the Riverbend Performance Plaza, the Historic Napa Mill’s Napa River Inn, Angéle and Celadon restaurants, Napa General Store, Sweetie Pies Bakery and Gondola Servizio and Italian Imports will also be open during regular business hours.
